Anthony Gormley’s Fourth Plinth Installation Begins

LONDON, ENGLAND – JULY 06: Rachel Wardell, a 35-year-old houswife, stands on the empty fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square on July 6, 2009 in London. The project by artist Antony Gormley entitled ‘One & Other’ will see a different person take their place on the empty fourth plinth every hour 24 hours a day for 100 days. The 2400 applicants are being chosen at random. Wardell, the first “living statue”, was beaten to the plinth by anti-smoking protestor Stuart Holmes who climbed up but agreed to come down just before the event was due to start.
